Why You Should Stay Away From Tijuana

If you are just going to ask stupid questions, it would be better if you didn’t visit. Let us enjoy our great restaurants, theaters, museums, and beaches without being bothered by tourists asking dumb questions.

The Problem in Tijuana

I dislike Tijuana not so much for its own sake, but for the types of people it attracts from the north. It's the go-to destination when you're 22 from the US or Canada and want to get drunk cheap and quickly, perhaps come home with a rain stick and a cheap jacket. I've never seen more people vomit than in Tijuana.

Unless you have a commercial interest or are looking for examples of badly behaved tourists, there isn’t much of a point in going there, at least not for me. The real Mexico is further south and really worth seeing.

Responsibility and Freedom

Never ever visit Tijuana if you can’t control yourself. Here you are free completely free but freedom comes with responsibility. If you can’t control your drinking habits, or if you are a junkie, you will get into big trouble really fast and will end up in deep shit.

While Tijuana may offer instant gratification for some, the risks associated with visiting such a place are too high. Responsible travel involves more than just the compensation for ephemeral pleasures. It involves personal responsibility and the respect for the local community, which should be taken very seriously. If your visit to Tijuana is driven by curiosity, consider exploring the authentic Mexico further south.
