Why Some Disney World Rides Are Off Limits for Me

When it comes to Disney World, many rides are thrilling and enjoyable. However, there are a few that have turned me off over the years due to personal preferences and past experiences. In this article, I will discuss the reasons why some rides never make it to my list of must-rides, and perhaps, why I am hesitant to hop on certain attractions.

Defining the Parameters

To start, I will lay out the criteria that I use to evaluate the rides. After all, everyone has their own preferences and the reasons behind their hesitations can be subjective. Here are the key factors that I consider:

Spin Factor: I dislike rides that spin a lot. This includes classic rides like The Tea Cups and any new additions that feature a lot of circular motion. Motion Simulators:** These rides, like Star Tours and Smuggler’s Run, can be fun, but I often feel uncomfortable after the ride is over. Therefore, my tour of motion simulators is limited. Kids’ Opinions:** If my children express fear or hesitation about a ride, I will pass. This is to ensure a fun and enjoyable experience for everyone. Line Time:** I prefer shorter wait times. If a ride has a disproportionately long line, I usually seek out alternative attractions. For smaller, campier rides, a longer wait is a deal-breaker. Potential for Headaches:** I am concerned about rides that could potentially lead to a need for a chiropractor. For instance, the Matterhorn in Disneyland is a source of significant neck and spine strain, making it a ride I avoid altogether.

The Rides I Avoid

Based on the criteria mentioned, here is a list of rides that I would avoid when visiting Disney World:

Star Tours

Star Tours ranks high on my list of rides to avoid. While it is technologically advanced, the jerky motion often leaves me feeling nauseous. I have not ridden this ride in nearly a decade, and it shows no signs of improving. I have opted to find other, less jarring rides to enjoy during my Disney World vacation.

Matterhorn

The Matterhorn is another ride that I have largely abandoned. While it was an iconic attraction, the stress on my neck and spine has made it unbearable for me. I prefer to avoid this ride and find other, less intense experiences.

Tea Cups

Rides like The Tea Cups and Alien Swirling Saucers are pretty much the same and involve minimal looping or circular motion. I find that such rides do not offer much excitement for me, and their descriptions and appearances often allow me to determine if they are worth trying without actually riding them.

Dumbo, Aladdin Magic Carpet, and Other Circular Rides

I generally avoid these types of rides. They are those that spin extensively and do not offer a significant thrill. Other rides at the water parks, Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon, are also off limits for me, as I do not enjoy water parks anymore. Additionally, I have no intention of riding Kali River Rapids because of the risk of getting soaked.

Mission Space

Mission Space is a unique ride, but despite its engaging storyline, the enclosed space makes me feel claustrophobic. I can tolerate the spinning, but the limited space is not for me. I admit, seeing how astronauts manage in such conditions is beyond me. Also, each of the smaller rides at Space Mountain and Star Tours feels like I need a chiropractor after a ride. Even the newer Rise of the Resistance ride at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge offers a small drop, but it is quick and tolerable, so it does not dissuade me.

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror

Twilight Zone Tower of Terror is a ride that I find particularly unpleasant. Free falls and accelerated falls are not my cup of tea. While Rise of the Resistance does feature a small drop, the overall experience is so fantastic that the drop is not a deal-breaker. However, the crowds at this ride are as much a deterrent as the fall itself.

Conclusion

While the rides I mentioned are not suitable for my personal preferences, they offer unique experiences for others. Each person has their own set of likes and dislikes, which is what makes visiting Disney World such an enjoyable and personal experience. I encourage you to take into account your own preferences and try to find rides that suit your interests and comfort level.
