Urban Escape or Natural Retreat: My Preference and Reasons

Living by the mountains, woods, beaches, or farmland each offers unique experiences, but my preference leans towards a blend of urban cityscapes with easy access to natural surroundings. This lifestyle aligns with my personal comfort and desires, especially as I have aged. Even though a beach or urban skyline is what I am most accustomed to, there is so much more to consider when choosing a place to live.

Urban Cityscape with Ease of Access to Nature

Directly saying it without a doubt, I prefer living in an urban cityscape. In my current home, I have the luxury of easy access to mountains, natural waters, and nearby wilderness areas. This blend of urban comfort and natural beauty is truly a perfect mix for modern living. When I previously lived in a remote area, I found myself periodically seeking out the city to reinvigorate myself. My present city life provides this same rejuvenation, but within a more convenient and accessible setting.

Aging and Preference for a Calmer Lifestyle

My preference for a calmer lifestyle is particularly prominent as I age. Now, I find myself more inclined to be 'deflated' rather than 'pumped up.' Spending time on a veranda with a scotch, watching the sunset, and enjoying the serene ambiance of a cityscape with nearby nature is more appealing to me than the vibrant, energetic party scene that might be found at a place like CBGB.
Even though they might still Pogo dance there, the idea has lost its allure. As someone who has lived in both remote areas and bustling cities, I value the balance that an urban cityscape with natural surroundings provides. It offers the best of both worlds; the convenience and amenities of the city coupled with the peace and natural beauty offered by nearby wilderness.

Why Urban Cityscapes with Nearby Nature?

Living in such an urban cityscape has several advantages. First, it provides easy access to all the conveniences and opportunities of a city, such as urban amenities, cultural experiences, and professional networks. However, the proximity to natural spaces offers a change of pace and a sense of connection to the larger world beyond the city limits. Whether it's hiking through nearby trails, enjoying a picnic by the lake, or simply observing wildlife, these natural spaces enhance the overall quality of life.

Additionally, an urban cityscape with natural surroundings promotes a healthier and more balanced lifestyle. The proximity to parks, green spaces, and natural landscapes encourages regular physical activity, which is crucial for maintaining good health. Furthermore, the exposure to natural elements can have a positive impact on mental well-being, helping to reduce stress and improve overall mood. This combination of urban convenience and natural beauty creates an ideal environment for a fulfilling life.

Reflection on Remote Living

While I enjoyed my time in remote areas, living there required more effort to experience nature. Traveling long distances for outdoor activities, such as visiting a stream or cabin, was necessary. This aspect can be limiting, especially for someone who values convenience and ease. In contrast, living in a smallish urban cityscape allows me to effortlessly access natural retreats, which is a significant advantage.

Overall, my preference for living in an urban cityscape with easy access to natural landscapes is a reflection of my evolving lifestyle needs. The comfort, convenience, and health benefits of such a setting make it an ideal choice for me, particularly as I age. This lifestyle allows me to return to nature without the need for extensive travel, providing a perfect balance between urban living and natural rejuvenation.
