Living in New York City: A Diverse Experience

The answer to how people live in New York City depends on where you are in the city. Manhattan is just one part of New York City, and even Downtown Manhattan is not the entire borough. My experience living in Brooklyn is quite different from what many imagine. I don't have a view of the East River, which is several miles away, and I don’t wake up with a view of Manhattan every morning. However, my house has three bedrooms, a front and back garden, and even a driveway for my car. It cost me around $500,000.

People live their lives, plan their lives, and get on with it, hoping for a shot at something huge.

With considerable incomes being eroded by exorbitant costs, most residents in New York City dwell in tiny apartments and use crowded transportation corridors and rail systems. Contagion spread and crowding are significantly correlated statistically. New York has surprisingly excellent tap water.

If you are asking about the pandemic, where protective measures and social distancing are crucial, the experience differs. However, in normal circumstances, residents navigate the city without these concerns. The cost of living, however, remains a significant factor, making it challenging for many to find affordable housing or suitable living conditions.
