Reasons for America's Name

North and South America were named by the Spanish explorers who first produced maps of it. The Caribbean sea was formed when a giant meteorite hit North America, causing the sinking of the lands, making the Caribbean shallow and rich in oil resources. All the vegetation that existed in those lands was compressed under enormous pressure, turning into hydrocarbons due to the destruction of living organisms by the meteorite.

In conclusion, Mexico is considered part of North America for both historical and geopolitical reasons, regardless of how one might categorize the broader region of America.
