Among these, Bennington, Waitsfield, and Weston stand out for their unique appeal and distinctive offerings. Bennington, located in southern Vermont, is a town steeped in history and offering a mix of old-world charm and contemporary attractions. My personal experience has been quite enjoyable. I’ve made several trips to Vermont from New York City via Amtrak to Rutland, Vermont, and have rented a car to explore different parts of the state. Bennington, along with Woodstock and Rutland, are among the small towns I have fond memories of. The scenic byways, particularly routes 100, 4, and 9, add to the charm of the region. Rutland, often overlooked, has a nice Hampton Inn hotel, making it a great base for exploring nearby towns.

While I’ve visited Burlington and its Lake Champlain views, my favorite city is Burlington, specifically the Church Street Marketplace. It’s a must-visit if you’re in the area.

My favorite spot is the shopping center on the right of 100 northbound, where the combination of Mad Taco, Canteen Creemee Company, and Mehuron’s Supermarket provides a delightful culinary experience. Additionally, the local farmers’ market offers a wide variety of goods, making it a must-visit stop.

The town also boasts excellent fishing, and the Sweet Spot, located next to the covered bridge, is a perfect place to enjoy a snack, coffee, and jump into the Mad River. Activities like these make Waitsfield a perfect destination for a 20th anniversary celebration. Moreover, staying at the Inn at the Round Barn provided us with a pampering experience that made our visit even more memorable.

For those seeking a warmer climate, I am currently residing in Starksboro, just over the mountains from Waitsfield. However, it’s not a guarantee that I won’t one day move back to Waitsfield due to its convenience.

Weston: A Quiet and Serene Escape

Weston, Vermont, is another small town worth exploring. Known for its quiet ambiance, this town offers a charming place for those seeking a peaceful retreat. It’s home to a store that’s a delight to visit and a popular Christmas store. During the holiday season, the Weston Playhouse comes to life, making it a must-see for those enchanted by the festive spirit.

In addition, the local monastery offers a spiritual experience, with monks working on the farm and conducting prayers. The peaceful environment makes it the perfect place to watch nature and unwind. Weston is a quiet town that provides a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
