The tree was planted by former Sri Lankan President Mahindra Rajapaksa, who planted a branch from the original Bodhi tree under which Gautama Buddha attained enlightenment. The Madhya Pradesh government spends 12 to 15 lakh rupees each year on its maintenance, and the safety of this tree is secured by four police officers who guard it 24/7. This iconic tree is a testament to the respect and admiration it commands in the region.

My family and I have traveled across the state numerous times, and throughout the last twenty years, we have not witnessed a single unpleasant incident. The food is incredibly cheap, without any unnecessary marketing or propaganda, and it is largely organic. The culture, diversity, and warmth of the people have made Madhya Pradesh a special place for me.

Madhya Pradesh is a melting pot of cultures from all regions of India, including the diverse traditions of the north, south, east, and west. This diversity is beautifully celebrated through various festivals and rituals, including Garba, Navratri, Ganesh Chaturthi, Holi, and Diwali. The local people are extremely polite and respectful, quite different from the louder behavior typical of some areas. The prevalence of joint families and the sense of community make the state feel more intimate and connected. Safety is another key factor, with fewer scenes of violence, fraud, robbery, or murder.

Madhya Pradesh is not just about cultural richness but also offers a diverse landscape ideal for relaxation and rejuvenation. The state boasts many holiday destinations such as Mandu, Choral, Pachmarhi, and Sanchi, which are perfect for taking a break from the daily hustle and bustle. For nature lovers, there are various tiger reserves and national parks, providing an ideal setting for wildlife watching and photography. These destinations offer a chance to escape and find peace amidst nature.
