Debunking Misconceptions: Why a Conservative Dislikes Trump

It's often said that Trump's presidency was a game-changer for American politics. For many on the political spectrum, Trump is a polarizing figure, but for those who identify as Conservative, feelings towards him can be quite complex and often disillusioning.

A Disillusioned Independent

I'm an independent rather than a staunch Conservative. I had my share of Political preferences, such as wanting Hillary Clinton to be behind bars and the government overreach to be curtailed. However, the reality didn’t match my expectations. Despite my hopes, Trump‘s administration didn’t secure the border as promised, and the narrative of draining the ‘swamp’ turned out to be a hollow rhetoric.

Questioning Trump's Motivations

Some critics suggest that Trump might have had ulterior motives. During the debates, Rand Paul’s question stuck with me: “Where did you come from? How can we trust you?” This comment is often perceived as a challenge to Trump‘s credibility and authenticity. Another quote that resonates with the perception of a calculating leader is the idea that actions often tell a different story than words. So, what have we seen from Trump? What hasn’t happened and what has?

Failed Promises and Underperformance

Government Overreach: The swamp wasn’t cleaned, and many aspects of government overreach became more pronounced. Foreign Policy: Discussions about foreign policy are delicate, but it's clear that Trump's approach didn't achieve the desired diplomatic outcomes. Continual Underperformance: Republicans underperformed in three consecutive elections: the House in 2018, the House and Senate in 2020, and the lack of a general 'Red Wave' in 2022, largely due to candidates favored by Trump. Current Incompetence: The current administration is described as ‘sickeningly incompetent’ yet remains favored in the 2024 election. Conservative Critique: There's a growing sentiment that Trump has hindered the conservative cause, as evidenced by the cancellation of many non-conformist voices and the reluctance of the Higher Classes to embrace Trump‘s political path, despite losing a significant amount in assets and facing a porous border.

Conspiracy Theories and Cynicism

Is it possible that Trump was intentionally sinking the conservative cause to serve his unknown masters? While it’s easy to dismiss such conspiracy theories as wild, the reality is that many question Trump‘s genuine efforts to help the cause. This cynicism has led to constant disappointment, with Trump‘s loyal supporters claiming he was merely acting in a calculated manner to serve ulterior motives.

Time and Hindsight

With Trump in office for four years, it's become apparent that his actions haven’t aligned with the expectations of many. The idea that he could single-handedly fix everything is mythical at best. The four-year span is enough to assess the performance and impact of his presidency, and the results speak for themselves.
