Captivating Vistas That Leave a 'Wow' Impression
Have you ever seen a vista that left you breathless and exclaiming 'Wow!'? From panoramic ski-lift views in the Swiss Alps to serene prairie cemeteries, there are countless locations around the world that offer breathtaking scenery. In this article, we will explore some of these awe-inspiring views and share how photographers capture these moments.
Swiss Alps Vista
Imagine stepping onto a ski-lift and being transported to a scene directly out of a natGeo magazine. This is a reality for many who visit the Ski Lift up to Mount Pilatus in the Swiss Alps. Despite the limitations of the view through a camera lens, the beauty of the landscape can still leave a lasting impression. Figure 1 shows a photograph taken here, where the vibrant colors of the alps meet the blue of the sky.

Prairie Cemetery Vista
There is also beauty in the unexpected locations, like a very old prairie cemetery. Located near a photographer's home, this spot is part of a wildlife sanctuary. To access it, one must travel down a small dirt road that is hemmed in by thick trees. After a peaceful walk, you find yourself overlooking a serene prairie lake. The old, overgrown trees and the stillness of the lake make this a favorite spot, especially as the sun starts to set. Figure 2 captures the photographer's daughter taking a picture of the scene just before dusk.

Pittsburgh Tunnel Vista
For those who call Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania home, the Fort Pitt tunnel offers a stunning view. The tunnel leads to a lit-up city at night, making it a picturesque sight that is easy to capture. Figure 3 showcases this view at night, highlighting the city's lights against the blackness of the tunnel.

California Coast Vista
The journey from San Simione to the main route back to Los Angeles comes with numerous breathtaking vistas. The curves of the highway offer panoramic views of the ocean and land that will take your breath away. This stretch of road is not only beautiful but also a photographer's paradise. Figure 4 captures a stunning ocean vista that can be found along this route.

Minnesota North Shore Vista
Every season, the photographer makes his way to the North Shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota, specifically to the area around the Gunflint Trail. Figure 5 shows an incredible view captured at Mt. Josephine overlook, just before sunrise. The photographer mentions the perfect timing of the clouds clearing, which allowed for a Milky Way shot, followed by a sunrise capture. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, especially in the fall when the leaves are changing, creating a breathtaking display of colors.

Conclusion
These vistas, though unlike the Alpine ski-lift, the peaceful prairie cemetery, the lit-up tunnels of Pittsburgh, the dramatic curves of the California coast, or the picturesque North Shore of Lake Superior, all offer a 'wow' impression. They are not just striking, but they are deeply personal to those who experience them. Whether it's a moment of stillness in a cemetery, a view through a tunnel, a panoramic stretch of the coast, or the dynamic colors of the fall season, these vantage points encapsulate the beauty of the natural world and make for powerful photographic moments.
